For Those Entrenched in this Battle

I have been going through hell on earth lately. I try to be careful when I make statements like that because as sure as you’re convinced that you’re going through the worst time in your life, something new can come along to make you realize how good you’ve had it.

Still. Intense battle. Broken heart. Tired. Felt like giving up.

Then a friend sent me this. I post it here today for everyone who is engaged in this fight and who refuses to give up. This is for you as well.

I love you.

“To him who overcomes, I will give the right to eat from the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God…He who overcomes will not be hurt at all by the second death…To him who overcomes, I will give some of the hidden manna. I will also give him a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to him who receives it…To him who overcomes and does my will to the end, I will give authority over the nations- He will rule them with an iron scepter; he will dash them to pieces like pottery- just as I have received authority from my Father. I will also give him the morning star…He who overcomes will be dressed in white. I will never blot out his name from the book of life, but will acknowledge his name before my Father and his angels…Him who overcomes I will make a pillar in the temple of my God. Never again will he leave it. I will write on him the name of my God and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem, which is coming down out of heaven from my God; and I will also write on him my new name…To him who overcomes, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I overcame and sat down with my Father on his throne.”

Revelations 2-3, selections.

  1. I pray for you regularly. Even though I haven’t suffered your physical injuries, poverty, or extreme disappointments, I have experienced minor versions of these things and I can appreciate in some small way how difficult it must be. I care.

I’m so glad that Jesus Christ is with you to help you in this time. You are doing exactly the right thing to think about the amazing blessings God has promised us when we overcome. Remember that Jesus endured the cross “for the joy set before him”. We should do the same!

  2. Nice verse… I’ve always wondered what is meant by “overcome,” though, because all Christians overcome something in their lives (and who is to say that our struggles are worse than anyone else’s?), and it seems this verse is directed towards only a few who will receive extra reward in the next life (or perhaps I’m just reading it wrong and have been influenced by some odd opinions on Revelations).

Also, I’m not sure I’d ever want to rule nations with an iron scepter and dash them like pottery — I’m too nice for that. 🙂 Everything else, though, I’ll take.

Praying for you, and God bless.
